While putting on my favorite tennis shoes earlier this morning …

I noticed that I am literally surrounded by black and white:

My power cord to charge my iPod

My computer

My monitor

My keyboard

My wireless speaker

My television remote control

My Fitbit

My lip balm container

My toothpaste

My toothbrush

My mouth wash

My coffee pot

My to-go mug

My favorite coffee mug

My toaster

My egg timer

My refrigerator

My stove

My make-up brushes

My fashion magazines

Most of the clothes that hang in my closet and black and white

My favorite song by Niall Horan is even called "Black & White"

I live in a world where I am surrounded by black and white

I use black and white items in almost every facet of my being

Why can’t we all live in harmony with it?

I can’t wrap my head around it

I will never be able to understand the multiple layers of racism

And, more importantly, why in 2021 it is still in existence

Do yourself a favor

Let go of the hate

Love your neighbor

Reach far beyond the color of someone's skin
